Classic Vase

I was reading up on early American art and taking a look at the general style of the time. I liked what I saw so I did something about it.
This is what I did.

Here is the finished vase. I'm still amazed it made it through the Raku firing process with its slender ceramic stem in tact. Usually when pottery gos from 1800 to 72 degrees in an instant the temperature shock destroys it. Not this one. It is beautiful.

Rice Bowls

I gave a good friend of mine from Florida a pair of rice or sushi bowls as a birthday gift. He loved them. He said he would love them even more if they had lids that doubled as plates.

Here are the bowls and one plate right off the wheel.

Here is one of the finished bowls in green.

Price per bowl with lid and chop sticks: $25.00

Wall Platters

I was doing a lot of fishing this lase summer.

There is a little stream I like to fish right next to a bridge. I've never caught a record breaker by any means, but thats not why I like that spot.

I love carp fishing at night. They put up a great fight. Plus I feel like I'm doing the people who live on the lake a big favor by getting rid of them. This piece represents the moon, water, and the carp.

Lamps

This is one of the first lamps I made. I've been using it for a long time on my nightstand for reading. I don't think I would ever sell it, but I can always make you a new one. The two lamp styles you see are $145.00 a piece. Please e-mail me at pedersonpottery@hotmail.com to place your order.

Raku!

Japanese for Pleasure. A chance as a potter to play with fire. You have to be careful and you have to be fast, or you will get hurt. The end results make it all worth it.

This is the Raku kiln.

This is a piece made by my friend Gram. We just took the lid off the kiln and the vase is at 1800 degrees.

Now he is doing his best to hurt himself. Just kidding.
The glaze on the vase is copper based, so he is rubbing it with newspaper to bring the copper to the surface. Fun Stuff!

This was a wedding present for my friends Bob and Holly. Don't you wish you were my friend?

Throwing (a technical term for "making the pots")

Here are a few pictures showing how to make a pot.

I teach classes at The Potters Shop down town Waukesha. The classes are 2 hours every Tuesday from 6:30 to 8:30. You get 7 weeks and 25lbs of clay to make something. Hopefully something better than an ash tray or "modern art". Feel free to make whatever you want. Pottery is in the eye of the beholder.

Cost: $150.00 - includes 25lbs of clay and all firing fees -

Have a good day!

That's it for now. Thanks for coming to my site.
